We currently live in Marlborough at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. We have 52 Acres on which we breed, train and live life with our dogs. During the week Natalie works off the property as a tutor for a Training Institute. Before settling on this property we dairy farmed for 10 years where Ken got to go to dog trials and Natalie milked the cows. A good arrangement according to Ken As our family of two boys are well grown up, we now have the time to attend trials and travel with our dogs. Local trials are mainly around the Nelson Marlborough Region but we do travel to Canterbury and the North Island for the International trials. Ken says the international course is more practical. Trips to Ireland and Wales for the world trials has opened our eyes to the big international world of Sheepdog trialing. It is an amazing experience to meet other trailists from around the world and listen to their stories and meet their dogs. The courses used internationally are not what we use in New Zealand so it takes a tremendous amount of practice to achieve a standard comparable to the rest of the world. NZ trialists have very good control on their dogs so they can complete the majority of the course really well. The shedding seems to be the place where we need tuition and practice. As dog trialing is a sport you can participate in well into old age, we do have some years ahead of us to enjoy our travels and our dogs.
